The Philadelphia Union Release Their 2025 Schedule, Featuring Away Trips to Dallas, Houston, and Vancouver
Philadelphia’s season kicks off February 22 away to Orlando City, with a home opener against FC Cincinnati on March 1.
Chester, Pa. — The Philadelphia Union released their 2025 MLS schedule on Thursday, which will see them open the season on February 22 down in Orlando, and the home opener coming a week later on March 1 where the Union will take on FC Cincinnati.
Breaking Down The Schedule
The Union will play the standard 34-game MLS schedule, consisting of 17 home games and 17 away games. They will face six Western Conference opponents—three at home (St. Louis CITY, LA Galaxy, and Colorado Rapids) and three away (FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo, and Vancouver Whitecaps). The team will play 28 Saturday games, four Wednesday games, and two Sunday games. Only one Union game will be broadcast nationally on FOX: the March 16 match against Nashville.
MLS has introduced staggered kickoff times this season, moving away from the uniform 7:30 PM starts used last year. The Union will have five different kickoff times this season (excluding Mountain and Central time equivalents to 7:30 PM Eastern): two 6:00 PM starts, one 7:00 PM start, one 4:30 PM start, and one 2:00 PM start.
Key Matchups and Milestones
When St. Louis CITY visits Subaru Park on March 22, it will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams. St. Louis joined the league in 2023. Notably, former St. Louis CITY manager Bradley Carnell is reportedly the leading candidate to become the next Philadelphia Union manager. If hired, this match would mark Carnell's first game against his former team.
May will be the busiest month for the Union, featuring seven games in 28 days, including four on the road. The Union will face four playoff teams from last season, though only one of those matches (against Atlanta) will be away.
On May 14, the LA Galaxy will visit Subaru Park for the first time in seven years. The last meeting in Philadelphia ended in a 3-1 Union loss, with Zlatan Ibrahimović scoring for the Galaxy. This will also mark the fifth consecutive season the Union face the previous year’s MLS Cup winner.
The Union's longest road trip begins on June 25 against the Chicago Fire, followed by stops in Columbus (June 29) and Nashville (July 5). When the Union visit Chicago, it will be the first time Jack Elliott faces his former team since joining the Fire as a free agent this December.
The New York Red Bulls will visit Subaru Park on July 12. If Bradley Carnell is hired as the Union manager, it will mark the first time he faces his former club. Carnell was an assistant coach with the Red Bulls from 2017 to 2021 and served as interim head coach for 14 games in 2020.
On July 19, the Union will travel to Houston to face the Dynamo, their first trip there since 2018. That year, the Union played twice in Houston, winning 3-1 in an MLS match with goals from Alejandro Bedoya, Cory Burke, and Fafa Picault, but losing 3-0 in the U.S. Open Cup Final.
The Union's longest away trip of the season is to Vancouver on September 13, covering 2,934 miles. This will be their first visit to Vancouver since 2019, when the teams tied 1-1, with Kacper Przybylko scoring for the Union.
Closing Stretch
The Union's final four matches will take them up and down the East Coast, facing the New England Revolution, D.C. United, NYCFC, and Charlotte. Over the last five years, the Union have a combined record of 33-24-13 against these opponents.
Thanks for laying out the season so clearly.
