Jakob Glesnes and Andre Blake Named to MLS Team of the Matchday 10
Glesnes and Blake Shine in Union's 3-0 Win Over D.C. United, Earning MLS Team of the Matchday Honors
Jakob Glesnes and Andre Blake have been named to MLS's Team of the Matchday for Matchday 10 for their performances against D.C. United in the Union's 3-0 victory.
Jakob Glesnes earned a spot in the starting XI for his game-winning goal in the 15th minute off a Frankie Westfield assist. That goal was Glesnes's first of the season and his ninth career MLS goal with the Union in 157 appearances.
Glesnes played the full 90 minutes, completing 24 of 33 passes, winning one tackle, making two interceptions, securing two ball recoveries, and recording nine headed clearances.
Andre Blake earned a spot on the bench, making five saves, none bigger than in the 41st minute when he denied Jacob Murrell in a 1v1 opportunity. Blake kept his fourth clean sheet of the season and his 80th career clean sheet in MLS, becoming the second-fastest goalkeeper to reach 80 MLS clean sheets in 253 games.
The Union have now kept clean sheets in back-to-back games for the first time since May 18 and May 25, 2024. They have also kept three clean sheets in their last four games, conceding only once during that stretch. They are tied for the third-fewest goals conceded in MLS, with nine goals allowed.
With Glesnes and Blakes inclusion in MLS’ Team of The Matchday, they’ve become the sixth and seventh different Union players to earn that honor this season.
