The Philadelphia Union conceded early to Columbus, thanks to a Cucho Hernández header from a corner kick. The Union found the equalizer through a Nathan Harriel goal, giving the defender two goals in his last three games. However, the Union then conceded the next two goals to Mohamed Farsi and Cucho Hernández once more. They came within one goal again, thanks to a Jack McGlynn strike from outside the 18-yard box. With this loss to the Columbus Crew, the Philadelphia Union no longer control their playoff destiny, as they now sit in 11th place in the Eastern Conference.
