Harriel and Baribo Shine in Union's 3-2 Comeback Win Over LA Galaxy
The Philadelphia Union were well represented in MLS Team of the Matchday 13, with Nathan Harriel and Tai Baribo both earning spots in the starting XI for their goals against LA Galaxy on Wednesday night in the Union’s 3-2 comeback win. With the victory, the Union extended their undefeated run to five games and sit in second place in the Eastern Conference with an 8-3-2 record, trailing conference leaders FC Cincinnati by two points.
Nathan Harriel scored his first goal of the season, sparking the Union’s comeback with a goal in the 48th minute. Defensively, Harriel was solid, winning 1/1 tackles, registering two interceptions, recovering five balls, and winning 11/18 duels, the most by any player in the match.
Harriel became the 11th different player to score a goal this season for the Union and the ninth different player to be included in MLS’s Team of the Matchday.
Tai Baribo scored a brace, bringing his season total to 10 goals, which leads all players in MLS. Baribo became the fastest player in Union history to reach 10 goals in a single season, and he is the fifth player in team history to record three multi-goal games in a season, joining Sebastien Le Toux (2011), CJ Sapong (2017), Julian Carranza (2023), and Daniel Gazdag (2023, 2024).
Baribo was also named Player of the Matchday for the second time this season, his first since Matchday 2 against FC Cincinnati, where he scored a hat trick. This marks Baribo’s third career Player of the Matchday honor, and he is the first player this season to win the award multiple times.
