Nathan Harriel and Kai Wagner Named to MLS Team of the Matchday 16
Harriel and Wagner Both Score in Union's 2-1 Comeback Win Over Toronto FC, Marking Union's League-Leading Fifth Away Victory
The Philadelphia Union were well represented once again in MLS' Team of the Matchday, with both Nathan Harriel and Kai Wagner earning Matchday 16 honors for their performances in the Union's 2-1 comeback victory over Toronto FC on Wednesday night.
Nathan Harriel started the comeback for the Union, scoring a header in the 86th minute off a Kai Wagner corner kick. That was the Union's league-leading 12th set-piece goal of the season. Harriel played all 90 minutes in the win, winning 1/1 tackles, making five clearances, three interceptions, one ball recovery, and winning 6/9 aerial duels.
Kai Wagner scored the game-winning goal in the 92nd minute, his first goal of the season for the Union. Wagner became the 13th different player to score for the Union in MLS this season and the fifth defender to score this season. He also picked up his seventh assist of the season, which is tied for the league lead. He played 90 minutes, completed the most passes in the game with 38, created the most chances with six, won 2/4 tackles, made three clearances, one interception, eight ball recoveries, and won 5/8 ground duels.
With the 2-1 win, the Union find themselves in first place in the Supporters' Shield standings with a 10-3-3 record, which is good for 33 points. The Union also picked up their fifth victory on the road this season in MLS, which leads all teams and improves their away record to 5-2-0. This marks both Harriel and Wagner's second time winning Team of the Matchday honors this season.
The Union return to action tomorrow night at 8:30 PM ET on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV as they take on 11th-place FC Dallas (4-6-5, 17 points) at Toyota Stadium.
